Members of Congress are living off food stamps for a week to protest Republican cuts. It’s a challenge for them, but GOP cuts would hurt millions of everyday Americans.

Why does this not have more publicity. This needs it!

Signal boosting this A) because it deserves to be seen by more people, and b) because I appreciate some members of Congress are actually willing to see what it’s like living on food stamps in order to make their point about how horrifying cutting food stamps would be.

News flash, regressives: people on food stamps do not load up on Snickers bars and filet mignon. They’re limited in what they can buy, and oftentimes, it’s not enough to get by on. Go on thinking these are entitlements that let minorities live lives of luxury, comfortable in the knowledge that you’ll never go hungry.

You privileged, elitist pricks.

It’s been a week since KINGDOM HEARTS III was announced at the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo during Sony’s press conference, and we are all still trying to soak up all of the new information. Many fans have been awaiting this announcement for some years now and with the release of KINGDOM HEARTS 3D [Dream Drop Distance] last year, the stage for the next and final installment in the Xehanort Saga had been had finally been set.

The newest issue of Famitsu Weekly (7/4) that has come out today covers all of the new games revealed at E3, as well as a new interview with series director Tetsuya Nomura on KINGDOM HEARTS III and FINAL FANTASY XV. In the interview Nomura discusses that there has been nothing decided on the possibility of Riku and Kairi being playable characters. He also mentions that KH3 is the end of the Xehanort Saga, and briefly discusses the new “Kingdom Shaders” that the team plans to use to make an authentic Disney look for each world.

Nomura tells fans to expect more information on KINGDOM HEARTS III at Tokyo Game Show 2013 in September, and the Japan D23 event being held in October.

Update: Tai Yasue, co-director of KH3D and Re:Chain of Memories, will serve as co-director for KH3. Rie Nishi, producer for KINGDOM HEARTS 1.5 ReMIX, is also coming on as producer for KH3.

Q & A from Director Tetsuya Nomura

・It is a direct continuation from KINGDOM HEARTS 3D and the selection of new worlds is underway. It is the final battle between Master Xehanort in the last chapter of the Seeker of Darkness saga.

・Other than Sora, will we be able to play as Riku and Kairi?: I can’t say no to the possibility.

・Visuals: We continued to explore on how should a next generation KINGDOM HEARTS should look like and we tried to make the textures to closely resemble those of Disney illustrations. From there, it was updated.

・From numerous attempts by Mr. Nozue, the “KINGDOM SHADER” developed visuals that created those textures.

・Action: In the demo, the moments were a lot more rampant. There will be more adventurous experiences, KINGDOM HEARTS III will utilize three party members, in every world NPCs can also participate in these flashy battles. As one progresses, the AI for friends and foes become different.

・Sora learned the Keyblade’s truer strength during the Mark of Mastery Exam.

・The development team of FINAL FANTASY XV and KINGDOM HEARTS III have a friendly competition between each other. There is also a response to a sneak preview, online compatibility is being considered and please wait for more information in the future. This year, TGS in October and also D23 Expo Japan will be revealing more information.

Not sure if you have seen this already (I wouldn’t be surprised if you have!) but I spotted this resource by artist Jackie Lo for calculating sales tax. I run AAtoast and we focus on resources for Canadian (usually Toronto) events, but I thought this would be super useful for artists attending US conventions! From the post on the website, it includes:

calculation of sales tax per year (how much money you earned and how much of it goes will be sales tax)

money on supplies/conventions (how much money you spent on tickets/transportation/equipment

total earnings for the year, and how much after calculating the amount spent

Calculating cost/earning per convention

average money per month

comparison of monthly earnings

payments due-by dates and how much you need to pay during that period. Basically after you shove all the numbers in, you just look at this box and write down the number on your sales taxes ;)

Review of a selection of short stories by Nakamura Asumiko:

Long Long Alonging, I am a Piano, Free Fitting for Her, Noel, Velvet Going Underground, Till Dawn, The Bedroom Girl The Sculpture Room Girl, The Tea Garden, The Teddy Bear Murder Case, and Welcome to Wonderland

Nakamura Asumiko is a master of what could be called ‘serious whimsy.’ The themes she explores in these short stories are death, sexuality and everything in between, and yet they are filled with a child-like sense of play. I won’t tell anything about the plots because even a hint would ruin it, but I will say that you should definitely read them for yourself. They’re perfect if you don’t have very much time to read because they’re extremely short; some are even under ten pages. I’ve read all of the shorts that are translated and these are definitely my favorites. Nakamura’s drawing style is also very refined and specific; no one else draws like her in the least.

Tableau no. 20 by Esuto Emu (a review of chapters 1-4)

The first and third stories in this selection might be the best new BL manga I have ever read. Esuto Emu draws beautifully and writes really unique stories with a nostalgic feeling. The first story chronicles an encounter between a man and the spirit of a painting that he loved from the 19th century. It is poignant and yet not melodramatic. The second story didn’t strike me as much, so I will continue to the third, which is the story of a beautiful, young, master dancer who is stuck in a rut in his life. Two nostalgic stories set in Europe, they almost have the same feeling as films by Truffaut or Fellini. They are a must read. I have yet to finish the collection, so I will keep you posted.

Faeora is one of the many reasons Man of Steel is such a great movie.

She’s Zod’s equal. There’s no romance going on between them, and he clearly has a lot of respect for her. She has practical armor on, and she’s incredibly tough both physically and mentally. I think the writing for all of the women in the film (particularly Faeora and Lois Lane) was incredibly good.
